The hook and loop is an integral part of our day to day life, but it was created by the Swiss engineer, George de Mestral in 1941.Interesting Fact: In 1941, Swiss engineer and inventor George de Mestral observed the burdock burrs kept sticking to his dog's fur as it kept passing by the unique plants. After years of studying the burr's properties, de Mestral managed to use its unique affixing and fastening properties and integrate it into textiles. However, it took another decade to get it right. Eventually, De Mestral decided to name his revolutionary invention by mixing the two French words "Velour"ť (velvet) and "Crochet"ť (hook) that gave the brand name "Velcro."ť
